About Mivule:

Mivule is an Afro-Reggae group with deep grooves and positive vibes.  Led by Brian Baroda, a South Sudanese refugee, they play songs with lyrics in English, Lugandan, and Swahili. They have recently become a trio with the departure of their keyboard player, and are currently exploring their roots, redefining their sound, and reimagining many of their older songs. Mivule takes its name from an East African teak tree, which was a gathering place in Brian's youth. Under the extended branches of this tree, villagers would meet to resolve disputes and seek harmony and unity as a community. Come and join us for songs, stories, and infectious rhythms live from The Shelf!

About The Shelf Concert:

Inspired by NPR’s Tiny Desk Concert, we bring raw, stripped-down performances to Vancouver. No blasting speakers, no artificial mixing—just pure, direct sound. Artists self-mix in the moment, adjusting to the space and energy of the room. And since each concert is recorded live, the audience isn’t just watching—they’re part of the final cut. Every cheer, clap, and moment of silence is captured forever.

How It Works

• The concert is structured into multiple sets (3 minimum) of three songs, with short 10-minute breaks in between.

• Natural emotional reactions (clapping, cheering, vibing, etc.) are encouraged!

• During performances, we ask for minimal disruptive noise—think of it like being in a live recording session. And it is!

• Breaks are off the record—the perfect time to chat, grab another drink, or order more food.

• Artists may extend their set if the vibe is right. Show your love, and you might just get an encore!
